I have started to create the Wales animation page. You will need to bring your videos and PDFs to Norway for me to add them. Here is what the finished material will look like.
Year 6 – 10 years old
Year 6 have been studying materials this term. Their practical investigation was on rates of dissolving and what affects them. They were asked to find out what happens when substances dissolve and explain this in an animation. They first used a KWHL grid to find show what they knew and what they would find out by research. They then used the storyboard provided to plan their videos. iPads were used along with the i Can Animate App and sound added in iMovie. Pupils were left totally to their own devices to produce the material. After the videos were created, they were asked to reflect on them by completing the KWHL grid.year6kwhlgrid
Year 4/5 – 8-9 years old. Year 4/5 have been studying volcanoes and mountains term.
Pupils completed thrir KWHL grid related to their knowledge of volcanoes and their knowledge of animation.
In Literacy, children have been writing explanations about how volcanoes explode and what causes the eruption.
Pupils practical aspect of the topic was to design, create and make a volcano out of paper mache. They filmed themselves making their volcanoes , in time frames, using the ‘I can animate’ app.
They drew each step of the eruption and also independently animated each process using the animate app. Pupils now use the software to help other children understand what happens when a volcano erupts.
Year 3/4 decided that they wanted to do an animation on an element of maths that they were learning. They decided that it would be a good idea to do an animation on pictograms to show what fruit was popular in their class. They all filled out a KWHL grid stating what they already knew about animations and pictograms and what they would like to find out. In order to make the animation they all had to create resources. This included the fruit and the titles for the pictogram.
Once they had created these they used the app I Can Animate to create the animation. The children were responsible for capturing the frames and putting the resources they created onto the board one at a time. When they had captured all the frames they needed they looked back at the animation to see if they needed to speed it up or slow it down. Having decided on a speed that they were happy with they went back to their KWHL grids to write down what they had learnt.year34
Pupils in Year 2 have been studying the life cycle of the chicken during their science lessons. They were lucky enough to have some fertilised chicken eggs to hatch in an incubator. Using the internet, they found out about the life cycle of a chicken and completed a KWHL grid. They decided to try and capture the chicks hatching from their eggs using time-lapse photography. They set up a web cam connected to the class computer and took a picture through the incubator glass every 10 seconds. The final video footage was over two hours long. The class selected the best bits and with the help of the digital leaders edited it. They were then asked to draw the different stages of a chicken’s life. This was given to the digital leaders in year 6 to turn into an information video using VideoScribe.year2kwhlgrid
